Definition of Brass Metal, Brass Alloys and Brass Plating

Brass

(There is no chemical formula because Brass is not a Native element)

Brass is alloy produces by blending Copper and Zinc. The different proportions of copper and Zinc produce different colors and characteristics in the finished item. For more expensive jewelry making beads, chains, findings, wires and other components used “Rich low Brass” which is typicaly blend of 85% of Copper and 15% of Zinc and refer to us as “Red Brass”. “Commercial Brass” contain 90% of Copper and 10% of Zinc and usually used to produce springs, screws, rivets…etc. Less expensive beads, findings and components usually produce by blending 70% Copper and 30% of Zinc. Sometimes Brass mistaken for Bronze because of the color similarity. Usually Brass coated with a thin layer of lacquer to protect the metal and the patina, making the metal very easy to care for. Brass if contain only Copper and Zinc is non-toxic metal.
