I will show you how to make Dragonfly Charm with 5 easy steps! This Charm will make a great Focal point and will help you to save a couple of bucks as a substitute to Metal Charms. Tail of Dragonfly made with Glass and small metal spacers. You can use your own beads or purchase all items as “Tutorial Supply”.

For ONE Dragonfly Charm you will need:
1pc x Base Metal Eyepins 45mm long (silver color)
3pcs x Bali Style spacer beads 4mm deep (silver color)
1pc x Elegant Butterfly Wings (silver color)
6pcs x Glass seed beads size 8/0=3mm deep (I use Matsuno Crystal AB)

If you purchase all items as “Tutorial Supply”, you will receive all items as a “package”. One package will contain: 25pcs Eyepins, 30pcs Spacers, 6pcs Butterfly Wings, 20grm Glass seed beads size 8/0. You can make up to 6 Dragonfly Charms and if you purchase one more pack of Elegant Butterfly Wings you can make up to 12 Dragonfly Charms, plus you will have balance of Eyepins and Seed beads for future projects!

Method:
Step 1 : Eyepin has a loop on one end. Hold the loop of Eyepin with one hand and with the other hand insert onto Eyepin 2 size 8/0 seed beads, 1 spacer, 2 size 8/0 seed beads, 1 spacer, 2 size 8/0 seed beads, 1 spacer.

Step 2 : Insert “Elegant Butterfly Charm Bead”.

Step 3 : Hold the body of “Dragonfly” with one hand and with Chain Nose (or Round Nose pliers) in other hand Bend the other end of Eyepin at a 90° right angle.

Step 4 : Using Round Nose pliers bend the other end of Eyepin into a loop, ending up at the point where wire coming up from the “Elegant Butterfly Charm Bead”.

Step 5 : You can leave “Dragonfly” as it or you can made it a bit more artistic and modify the body. To do so, open the loop on the tail part with Round Nose pliers. Using the smallest point of Round Nose pliers start to bend into a small loop until all beads on the body will fit tight. Slightly bend the tail with your fingers and form a curved shape.

That’s it, you done!

Dear Marina
Thank you so much for the tutorial.
Made a few of these dragonflies by varying the seed beads and also by using 4mm crystals. Looks good as either pendant or earrings. Is there anyway I can make this into a brooch for my malay friends who are using the “tudung”? I cant seem to find a suitable pin for it.
I will look forward to more tutorials from you.
Regards to you.

Thankyou so much for your tutorial on making dragonflies, I have a dear friend who is wheelchair bound, and is a bead addict !! I am showing her how to make them for her Brownies pack,(8 year olds)..for when they have a fund raising day, is this allowed, there will only be about 20 or so,made…but as the dragonfly is so simple to make, and so beautiful,it is sure to be a winner, for cell phone charms. Very kind regards. June in the UK
